The Festival of Light: Linked to a very ancient holy scripture the festival of light marks the return of the Lord Ram the king of Ayodhya. An occasion that celebrates the triumph of good over evil with people lighting candles and diyas, and decorating their homes with colorful rangolis. Diwali is the time when loved ones get together and celebrate with loads of sweet treats and traditional clothes. Some of the cities that you should visit during Diwali are Varanasi, Delhi, or Rajasthan.

The Festival of Colors: With so many seasons to celebrate, India is one country that has a celebration for them all. One such festival to celebrate the arrival of spring is Holi. People gather around bonfires and sing and rejoice and on the day of Holi, they throw colors at each other. Holi tops the chart of the top 10 festivals to look forward to in India.

Durgoutsav or Navratri: India has always been a place that worships goddesses. This is why the people of West Bengal celebrate Durga Puja or Durgoutsav and the people of Gujarat observe Navratri. Setting up the pandals and wearing sarees of red and white, or dancing away for nine nights to mark the nine different forms of goddess Durga.

Eid-Ul-Fitr: A large majority of people in India are Muslims, and one of the beauties of India, is how every different festival is celebrated with equal joy. Eid is all about going to the mosque and eating special meals that consist of biryani and other delicacies. Children are given idis (gift) and all in all it is a time to celebrate togetherness.

Kite Flying Festival: Also known as Makara Sankranti, the kite flying festival happens ones in a year in January. People line up on their terraces for a day full of kite flying and singing. The states of Gujarat and Rajasthan observe this festival with a lot of joy and make the most of it.
